He was born on October 8th, 1914 in Fort Dodge, Iowa and is best known for founding two major international charity organizations, World Vision International and Samaritan’s Purse. From 1937 to 1940, Robert Pierce traveled across California as an evangelist. During this time, he developed a passion for helping those who were in need and providing them with a spiritual message of hope. After his ordination as a Baptist minister in 1940, he became involved with the Los Angeles branch of the World War II-era “Youth for Christ” (YFC) movement. This organization sought to bring young people together through Christian fellowship and activities while providing them with spiritual guidance.

In 1950, Robert Pierce founded World Vision International (WVI). WVI sought to provide long-term aid to impoverished communities by focusing on sustainable development initiatives such as health care, education, and economic opportunities.
