Matthew McCallan was a 15-year-old teenage boy from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, Ireland. The young boy belonged to a family who was an integral member of the GAA community in the area and was known to the Pearses.
McCallan went missing this past Sunday as hundreds of volunteers gathered in the area to search for him after his family’s request. Despite the vigorous search attempts, McCallan was nowhere to be found until earlier today.
Unfortunately, the situation took the worst turn that many of us expected but were hoping shouldn’t come true.
Matthew McCallan Found Dead After Going Missing
Matthew McCallan of Dungaggon was found dead in the Fintona area just before 12 PM today (Monday, December 5, 2022). His body was discovered by the police officers who were on the missing to find and rescue the boy.
McCallan went missing at around 1:30 AM on Sunday morning in the Co Omagh town of Fintona. He was last seen in the area alone as revealed from the security cam footage released by the local police.
Following his missing, the police started searching for the teenager in the nearby areas along with hundreds of volunteers from the GAA community and other nearby residencies.

PSNI Detective Inspector Michael Winters stated: “Our thoughts are very much with Matthew’s devastated family who received this tragic news today. A number of specially trained officers are providing support to them at this time.
“Detectives will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.
