Charles Johnson, a wide receiver who won a Super Bowl and played for nine seasons in the NFL, passed away at 50.

CBS 17 in Wake Forest, North Carolina reports that the reason for Johnson’s passing is a mystery.

The Steelers selected the native of California in the first round in 1994 and he played for the team for a total of five seasons.

During the 1996 season, he set a new career high with 1,008 receiving yards and currently ranks 16th all-time among Steelers receivers.

After that, Johnson spent two seasons playing for the Eagles, during which he tied his career high with seven touchdown receptions for the 2000 team.

He was a member of the New England Patriots team that won the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history in 2001.

Johnson hauled in two passes during the victory over the Steelers in the AFC Championship game. 2002 marked the end of Johnson’s playing career with the Buffalo Bills.

At the time, he worked as an assistant athletic director at Heritage High School.

After being picked by the Steelers in the 17th round in 1994, Johnson played in the National Football League for a total of four different teams throughout nine seasons. In 2001, while playing for the Patriots, he was awarded a ring for winning the Super Bowl.

After spending seven years with the Steelers and two years with the Eagles, Johnson finished his career with the Bills in 2002 before calling it quits.

Johnson finished his career having caught 354 passes for a total of 4,606 yards and 24 touchdowns. He participated in 133 total games and started 87 of them.
