Gil passed away in 2022 at the age of 83.

Gil began his career as a theatre actor in the 1950s. He appeared in a number of stage productions, including the Australian production of Waiting for Godot. In 1979, he was cast as The Nightrider in Mad Max. The film was a critical and commercial success and helped launch Mel Gibson’s career.
