Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo was a South African musician and TV personality. Born in 1982 in Umlazi, Mampintsha was a member of the Big Nuz band which also consisted of Mzi “Danger” Tshomela and the Sbusiso “R Mashesha” Khoma.
The trio founded the widely popular kwaito group in 2002. Mampintsha was a highly acclaimed producer and musician for the band. He also appeared on the reality show Uthando Lodumo alongside his wife Babes Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane.
The second season of the show was released in September in which the couple was seen working on their marriage. The first season featured their star-studded wedding celebrations and the anticipation of their first child fondly known as “Sponge.”
Mampintsha is also known for his hit songs like Joburg and Ngeke. He released seven albums with the group “Big Nuz.” They recently made a comeback and were planning to name their upcoming album after the late group member R Mashesha.

“The Southern African Music Rights Organisation confirmed the musician’s death on Twitter: “In memory of Big Nuz group member Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo, SAMRO sends heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and industry colleagues. Mampintsha will always be remembered for his immense contribution to the South African music industry,” SAMRO wrote in the post.
Mampintsha’s wife Babes Wodumo and West Ink Records manager Sbu Ncube also confirmed the tragic news.
