Following Sunday’s triathlon event, IRONMAN 70.3 August announced the death of an athlete who was competing in this year’s showcase. The athlete died during the swim portion as per the race officials.

They required urgent medical attention and was later transported to a local hospital. The athelete passed away in the hospital on Monday, September 26, 2022.
“We share our greatest sympathies with the family and friends of the athlete and will continue to offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. We thank the swim safety personnel and first responders who worked quickly to provide the athlete with medical support,” said IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta in an official post via Facebook.

In 2021, George R. Hall from Martizen died during IRONMAN 70.3 August. He was pulled out from water by the rescue team due to needing urgent attention. The live saving measures were carried on George before transporting him to the hospital.

However, he passed away, unfortunately, as a result of too much water filling into his lungs.
Earlier this year, a male athlete died in IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire in June.
