Jim Lynch, a linebacker who played all 11 NFL seasons with the Chiefs and was a starter on the team that won Super Bowl IV, has passed away. Lynch was a member of the Pro Bowl during his time with the Chiefs. He was 76.
Willie Lanier and Bobby Bell, both of whom are now in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, were two of Lynch’s teammates on one of the best linebacking corps in NFL history, which Lynch was a member of. Lynch was inducted into the Chiefs Hall of Honor among them.
Who was Lynch and His career
The majority of Lynch’s career was spent playing right outside linebacker, a position he held for the most of his 142 career starts before retiring at the 1977 . In the championship game victory over the Minnesota Vikings, he had four tackles and recorded 18 sacks, 17 interceptions, and 14 forced fumbles. In addition, he had 17 forced fumbles.
I began my Notre Dame career as a middle-linebacker. But, in order to make space for Willie who was in the centre, I switched to being a right outsider linebacker. Lynch spoke out in 2015 in an interview with The Lima Ohio News, stating that Bobby was the outside ‘backer on my left. “I consider it one of the greatest blessings of my professional life to have spent almost my entire career playing with two legendary players at this position.
Lynch was selected by the Chiefs in the second round of the Draft in 1967. At Notre Dame, he was recognised as a member of the All-America team, and as a senior, he was awarded the Maxwell Award, which is given to the best college athlete in the country. When the Fighting Irish won the national title in 1966, Lynch served as the team’s captain.
In 1992, he was honoured by being inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
