An accident took place in Oxnard on Friday evening where a pedestrian got hit by an oncoming vehicle. The person was later identified as Ventura County Supervisor Carmen Ramirez. She was rushed to the nearby hospital but the doctors couldn’t save her life.
Pickup Truck Hit Carmen Ramirez Leading to her Tragic Death
Carmen Ramirez, who was the chairwoman of the Ventura County Board of Supervisors, got hit by an oncoming pickup truck in Oxnard on Friday, August 12, 2022. The unfortunate crash occurred around 6:40 PM in the area of Seventh and A streets, according to Oxnard police.
The 2020 GMC Sierra truck was driven by a 38-year-old man who stayed at the scene and didn’t try escaping. He was cooperating with the authorities and investigators. The police stated the driver was headed west on Seventh Street toward A Street when the crash happened.
Ramirez was crossing the intersection within the crosswalk but couldn’t escape the collision in time. She was rushed to the Ventura County Medical Center and was admitted to an emergency room. However, she didn’t survive and the doctor pronounced her dead at 7:17 PM.

The County of Ventura announced the tragic news of Carmen Ramirez’s passing on the official Twitter account.
“Our County mourns the loss of our Chair of the Board Carmen Ramirez. Chair Ramirez was a pedestrian involved in a vehicle accident in Oxnard and passed away this evening. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, and her City and County community,” the tweet reads.

Who was Carmen Ramirez?
Carmen Ramirez grew up in the San Gabriel Valley with six siblings and worked in Ventura County since 1978. She was 73 years old. Her 2020 campaign’s website states that she served on the Oxnard City Council for over 10 years.
She was an Oxnard resident and an attorney by profession. She was serving on the Oxnard City Council and the Ventura County Board of Supervisors as the chairwoman this year.
Around two years ago, Ramirez became the first Latina in county history to be elected supervisor in November 2020. She followed up the achievement this year by becoming the first Latina to be elected by her fellow board members as chairwoman of the responsible board.
Her colleagues have been praising her services while paying respect to the deceased chairwoman. Some of them also gathered at the hospital to mourn the loss.
Interim County Executive Officer Sevet Johnson described her as “passionate” and “hardworking.” He also called Ramirez a huge advocate on climate issues as well as on behalf of her community and underserved populations.
“She was a powerhouse,” Johnson said.
Supervisor Linda Parks also paid respect to the departed soul and offered praise for Ramirez. “We were all blessed to have known her, blessed to have been her friend,” she said.
Ramirez is survived by her Husband Roy Prince
Carmen Ramirez is survived by her husband Roy Prince. Mr. Roy is an architect and design consultant by profession. Ramirez was predeceased by her brother Ricardo Ramirez.

Oxnard Mayor John Zaragoza called the crash “a tragic, tragic accident.” “It is just absolutely devastating to the community,” he said. ” We’re going to miss her tremendously.,” he said. The two have worked together on the City Council for around 10 years.
