In this finale, the character has been given more time, with an important moment occurring during the Thanksgiving episode when Rebecca and he Rebecca expressed their feelings towards each other, prior to the time the pair moved to Texas to be closer to his family.
The show has talked about all season that viewers will get the whole Miguel story and discover things that will allow them to feel more for Rebecca and him in all the drama of Jack Pearson.
