Jesse Powell died peacefully at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday. The unfortunate event was announced by his sister Tamara Powell via an emotional Instagram post.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle Jesse Powell. He passed away peacefully in his Los Angeles home,” Tamara wrote.

“The family asks for privacy at this time as we mourn the tremendous loss and celebrate his everlasting legacy.

“Jesse loved music and he especially loved his fans who supported him throughout his career. We want you all to know that you meant the world to him.”

Powell’s family didn’t reveal the specific cause of his death in the statement announcing the heartbreaking news. The statement only confirmed that Powell “slept peacefully and passed away.”

Who was Jesse Powell?

Jesse Powell was an American R&B/soul songwriter and singer who was born on September 12, 1971, in The Gary, Indiana. Powell’s family performed in local talent shows. In 1993, Powell attracted the attention of producer Carl Roland in Kansas City.

Afterward, Louil Silas signed him to his Silas Records imprint following an artist showcase. Jesse released his first single “All I Need” three years later, in March 1996. It was written by Powll, Sam Salter, and Laney Stewart.

Within the album, there was “You” which became Powell’s biggest and signature hit. It also appeared on his sophomore album “Bout It.” The song remains his top played track on Spotify with over 13 million streams currently.

Powell also released two more albums JP (2001) and Jesse (2003). JP included a single titled “If I” which was his another massive success. After releasing his final album, Jesse stepped away from fame and lived a private life. He was also nominated for grammy once.
