High school football players fell to the field amidst the voice of the shots. Players were seen fleeing to the locker room while the viewers were rushing out of the stadium. The shooting brought a halt to the Jones and Wekiva playoff game.

Deadly Shooting in the Jones High School Football Field Parking

A fatal shooting took place outside of an Orlando-area high school football game. The shooting happened at around 8:22 PM on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at the Jones High School Athletic Complex when a playoff game between Jones High and Wekiva High was going on.

The gunshots were heard from the parking lot and the crowd as well as the players panicked. Orlando police officers were serving extra duty at the place and were able to get the situation under control.

Upon reaching the northern portion of the football field, the officers found two men with gunshot wounds. They were rushed to the hospital. One man was pronounced dead at the scene while the other got treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

A couple of hours later, officers found another victim of the shooting who took himself to the hospital. He was discovered at around 10:30 PM.

Did the Police Catch the Suspects of Orlando High School Football Game Shooting?

Orlando Police have detained four juveniles and another person related to the Orlando High School football game shooting. The police believe that the suspects have been taken into custody and charges will be filed soon.

“We believe we have a possible suspect in custody. At the time, we do not know their affiliation with either of the schools. This is an ongoing investigation,” Orlando Police Department said in a statement.

The police also confirmed that there is no threat to the public in the area right now. The situation is completely under control as of midnight.

Orange County Public Schools provided the following statement in connection with the shooting:

“We are extremely saddened by the tragic event that occurred Saturday evening during the Jones and Wekiva football game. This is an ongoing police investigation and we are working closely with OPD to help bring resolution. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been impacted.”
