His conviction was overturned as a result of findings that the police had concealed evidence throughout the trial and that a witness for the prosecution was suffering from brain cancer at the time she named Mr. Drumgold as a suspect.
In the end, he won a wrongful conviction case against the city and a police detective and was given $5 million in compensation. According to his relatives and close acquaintances, he had gone on with his life.
