Who is Robert Gordon?

Robert Gordon was a well-known rockabilly singer, born on March 29, 1947, in Bethesda, Maryland, the United States, and grew up in his hometown. At the mere age of nine, Robert was really inspired by the Elvis Presley song “Heartbreak Hotel” and decided to make a career as a rock and roll musician at such a young age.

Robert made his recording debut in 1964, at just 17 years of age, with a group called the Confidentials. He was the singer of that group and recorded the songs “Money,” “Summertime,” and “There is Something on Your Mind,” among others.

Robert, along with his band Tuff Darts, became part of the burgeoning downtown punk scene, which was centred around CBGB. He was also included on the Atlantic Records compilation Live at CBGB in 1976. In the same year, he appeared in director Amos Poe’s punk film “Unmade Beds.” In addition to this, Gordon also appeared in and produced the soundtrack for 1981’s “The Loveless.”

After leaving Tuff Darts, before the band’s eponymous debut album briefly dented the Billboard 200 chart, Gordon teamed up with the great “Rumble” rock guitarist Link Wray, and they released an album, Fresh Fish, in 1978. Gordon’s next three solo albums, Rock “Billy Boogie” (1979), “Bad Boy” (1980), and “Are You Gonna Be the One” (1981), were really successful. In the 1980s and ’90s, Gordon performed with guitarists Danny Gatton and Chris Spedding often. 

Robert continued to perform till 2014 and even recorded an album, “Rockabilly for Life” in 2020. This album, unfortunately, became the last album from Robert in his remarkable music career.

The unfortunate news of Robert Gordon’s death was announced by his record label, Cleopatra Records, with a post on their Facebook page. Sharing the heartbreaking news, the label wrote, “Rockabilly Legend, Robert Gordon, passed away today. 

“Cleopatra Records would like to offer our deepest condolences to his family and friends.” “We liked working with Robert and will miss his powerful baritone vocals as well as his focused dedication to his music,” the post stated.

Robert Gordon’s cause of death

While sharing the news of the rockabilly legend’s unfortunate death, Cleopatra Records didn’t disclose anything about the cause of his death. The singer’s death left his family in great sorrow as they had lost such a beloved member of their family. Due to this, no confirmation about Robert’s cause of death has been made by them.
