What was the reason for Pyro’s death?
The representative for Howie’s estate stated in a statement his death died at the age of 61, on the 4th of May in 2022 because of complications caused by COVID-19-related pneumonia after an organ transplant, as well as liver diseases. Losing a loved one is not easy. We send many prayers of strength and comfort to his family and friends in this time of grief.
Pyro was survived by siblings Robin Hartmann, Rory, and Leah Hartmann, former wife Andrea Kusten Matthews, and numerous cousins. The family of the deceased has asked that all who want to honor his memory, consider donating in his name to the UCLA Division of Liver and Pancreas Transplantation.
The bassist was laid to rest in the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He will be forever loved by his fans for the amazing legacy he has left.
Howie collaborated with a variety of artists throughout his musical career.
Pyro was born on the 28th of June, 1960 He was the founder member of The Blessed and D Generation. He DJed during The Green Door parties. He was a part of the time in the New York City punk scene in the 1970s. He was part of the youth group the Blessed who performed with Max’s Kansas City and CBGB.
There was a time when Howie worked with a variety of artists like Danzig, Johnny Thunders, Rancid, Joey Ramone, the Misfits, Debbie Harry, Alan Vega, and Kid Congo Powers.
