Nick Rimmer arrived at Maryville University in 2019 as a freshman student-athlete on the men’s golf team. Even though he had only been part of the university family for a short time, Nick made an indelible mark on those around him. He had an infectious personality that drew people to him and made him friends with everyone he encountered. His commitment to excellence both in academics and sports was unwavering, and his leadership skills were already evident among his fellow athletes.
In addition to being an exceptional student-athlete, Nick was also a dedicated member of the community. He volunteered with various local organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, where he helped build homes for low income families in need of shelter. His generosity and compassion extended beyond volunteering; he often donated food items or clothing to those who needed it most. Nick also held fundraisers that raised thousands of dollars for charity each year—a testament to his unwavering commitment to giving back and making a difference in people’s lives.
What happened to Nick Rimmer?
The Maryville Saints community was shaken to its core on January 24, 2023 when it was announced that former student-athlete Nick Rimmer had passed away. He was only 20 years old. Edmonton Police Service first broke the news to the general public and the search for a male who had been reported missing has been called off after his body was found.
The Loss of Nick Rimmer
The loss of Nick Rimmer has left many hearts broken at Maryville University and beyond. His death has forced us all to reflect on our own mortality and cherish every moment we have together with our loved ones. We can think back fondly on Nick’s impact here at Maryville University and be comforted by knowing that even though he is no longer with us physically, his spirit will live on through those who knew him best—his family, friends, teammates, coaches, teachers, professors—and everyone else whose life he touched during his brief but meaningful time here at Maryville University.
