Who was Mike Tooley?

Mike Tooley was a brave firefighter from Orange County. He moved here when he was just 10 alongside his family. He graduated from high school and became a piping engineer. When he was 32 years old, he decided to become a firefighter after being influenced by his uncle John.

Tooley started working for the government for the first time in 1997 after becoming a paid call firefighter for the Orange County Fire Department. In 2000, he became a permanent firefighter for OCFD. Mike Tooley served there for more than 25 years.

To be precise, he was the Fire Apparatus Engineer with the department. He was promoted to the position at Fire Station 30 in Dana Point in 2006.

Mike Tooley died on Thursday, November 17, 2022. He was reportedly in his 40s at the time of his death. The Fire Apparatus Engineer and Orange County Firefighter Mike Tooley died of Occupational Cancer.

He had been battling the disease bravely for the last few years. Unfortunately, the illness got the upper hand and Tooley passed away suddenly this past Thursday. No one expected the courageous man to go away this soon.

The unfortunate news of his death was confirmed by the Orange County Fire Department on Facebook.

What is Occupational Cancer?

Occupational cancer is cancer that is caused wholly or partially by exposure to a carcinogen at work or while serving professional duties. It can be any type of cancer caused by occupational hazards such as diesel engine smoke, crystalline silica, etc.

Several types of cancers have been directly called Occupational Cancer such as mesothelioma, chimney sweeps carcinoma, etc. Being a firefighter, Mike Tooley was regularly exposed to smoke that contained Carbon Monoxide.

Due to his occupation, Mike Tooley developed occupational cancer. Unfortunately, he couldn’t survive and passed away earlier today.
