Man Injured After Package with Suspicious Note Explodes at Northeastern University:Let’s find Out What Happened

An explosion took place at the Northeastern University in Boston injuring one staff member. A package that was delivered late evening exploded when the 45-year-old man opened it while another similar package was found on the school’s premises. Read on to know what happened.

The Boston Police bomb squad and the firefighters responded to the scene as the man was admitted to a nearby hospital. All the scheduled classes for the remainder of the day and tomorrow have been cancelled.


Package Explodes in Northeastern University Injuring a 45-year-old Man

A package with a suspicious note was delivered to Northeastern University’s Holmes Hall just before 7 PM and when a staff member opened it, the package exploded. The 45-year-old man whose identity has been kept private sustained minor hand injuries in the freak event.

“The staff member sustained minor injuries and is being treated,” said NU spokesperson Shannon Nargi in a statement. The injured staff member has been admitted to the hospital for treatment.

The Boston Police bomb squad responded to the scene alongside the Boston Emergency Services at around 7:30 PM. Upon search, the police found a second similar package near a prominent art museum. It was “rendered safe” by the bomb squad.


Boston Bomb Squad Sealed Off a Part of the Campus; Classes Cancelled

The police bomb squad sealed off a part of the campus for further investigation. The Night classes in nearby buildings were cancelled.

“It’s very important to note that our campus is secure, and we will maintain a secure campus,” Northeastern University Police Department chief Michael Davis said in a statement.

The Police are working with the FBI’s joint terrorism task force to investigate the explosion. However, they didn’t provide any information on the motive of the blast or possible suspects.


MIT Police urging people to stay alert nearby Cambridge Campus

MIT Police is urging people on the nearby Cambridge campus to be alert and report any suspicious packages after the Northeastern University explosion.


Other schools in the area including Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology also stated that they were increasing patrols on their campuses as a precaution. They also urged students and faculty to report anything suspicious.
