John Moeti was an incredible soccer player and captain for Orlando Pirates. He also played for SuperSport United and made 29 appearances for Bafana Bafana between 1995 and 1999, scoring one goal. He was part of the 1996 African Cup of Nations team that won the championship. He will be remembered as a legend in soccer – not only in South Africa but around the world.
John Moeti’s Career History
John Moeti started his career at Jomo Cosmos where he played until he joined Orlando Pirates in 1994. During his time at the club he was considered to be one of the most important players in the team’s history as he captained them to many successful results. In 1997, he moved on to SuperSport United where he played until 2000 before retiring from professional soccer at 32 years old.
Moeti was a prominent figure in South African soccer during his time playing professionally, having been selected by fans as one of South Africa’s 100 greatest footballers in 2004 and awarded an honorary doctorate from Tshwane University of Technology for his contribution to sport development in South Africa in 2016.
