Walter’s racing career began in 2000 when he took part in the Tour de France for the first time. He raced in every Tour de France from 2000 until 2006, winning several stages along the way and achieving many podium finishes. His best finish was an impressive 4th place overall in 2005. Alongside his success on the Tour de France, Walter also enjoyed success in other races such as the Boucles de l’Aulne which he won twice (2002 and 2003) and the Chateauroux Classic which he won once (2004).
Off the bike, Walter was seen as a true gentleman who always had time for his fans and fellow riders alike.
He was known for his generous nature and good sportsmanship on and off the track. In 2007, he retired from professional racing to focus on his cycling school near Paris, where he shared his knowledge with aspiring young cyclists.
