Who was Vladimir Makei?

Vladimir Makei is a Belarusian politician who served as the minister of foreign affairs for almost three decades.

He was born in August 5, 1958 the Hamlet of Niekrasevicy, karelichy District, Byelorussian SSR and had been president Alexander Lukashenko’s chief of staff since 2012.

He publicly defended Belarus’s & supported Russia during the ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began in February, Makei, a supporter of close ties between Moscow and Minsk, said the West had provoked the war and that the Ukrainian authorities should agree to the Russian terms of peace.

Makei was appointed as the head of Lukashenko’s administration in April 2004.

From September 2007 to December 2008, he served as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Austria with concurrent accreditation as the Ambassador to Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia. He became Minister of Foreign Affairs on 27 December 2008.

He has held this position ever since. In 2012, he was appointed as chief of staff by president Alexander Lukashenko.

Makei also made sure that Belarus remained open to the world while maintaining its sovereignty.

He negotiated numerous trade deals with other countries that allowed Belarusian goods to make their way into global markets without sacrificing its autonomy or independence.

He also held numerous meetings with world leaders from all over the globe in order to promote understanding between people from different backgrounds and cultures.

Belarus’s foreign minister Vladimir Makei died suddenly on Saturday, November 26, 2022, the state news agency Belta reported. The cause of death has not been announced yet. The Russian authority has started an investigation carry out an objective and comprehensive investigation related to this tragic event.
