Paul Sorvino passed away at the age of 83 on Monday morning at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Florida. Her wife Dee Dee Sorvino was by his side at the time of his death. Paul had fallen ill Sunday night and was taken to the medical facility for treatment.

However, the actor’s age and organs couldn’t support his life anymore and Paul Sorvino died of natural causes. His publicist Roger Neal announced the news of his death while also confirming that he passed away due to natural causes.

The Sorvino family has also released a statement on Paul’s demise. “Paul Sorvino has passed from natural causes and had dealt with health issues over the past few years,” it reads.

“Our hearts are broken. There will never be another Paul Sorvino, he was the love of my life, and one of the greatest performers to ever grace the screen and stage.”

Paul’s wife Dee Dee also took Twitter and mourned the death of her husband. “I am completely devastated. The love of my life & the most wonderful man who has ever lived is gone. I am heartbroken ❤️❤️❤️” she wrote in a tweet.

Paul Sorvino was born and raised in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn. He attended Lafayette High School and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. He started his career as a copywriter in an advertising agency.

Sorvino also took voice lessons for 18 years and decided to work in theatre while still in Academy. He made his Broadway debut in 1964 music Bajour. Six years later, he appeared in his first film, Carl Reiner’s “Where’s Poppa?”

His film career spanned a solid 50 years where he appeared in several films, TV shows, and dramas. Sorvino played James Caan’s bookie in 1974’s The Gambler, Claire Danes’ pushy father in 1996’s Romeo and Juliet, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1995’s Nixon, and a heroin addict in 2003’s The Cooler.

Sorvino also played a founder of the American Communist Party in Warren Beatty’s Reds (1981). He then worked alongside the same actor-director in 1990’s Dick Tracy, 1998’s Bulworth, and 2016’s Rules Don’t Apply.

He fulfilled his long-time dream when he performed for the New York Opera at Lincoln Center in 2006. In 1973, Sorvino got a Tony nomination and a Drama Desk Award for his performance as the unscrupulous Phil Romano in Pulitzer Prize-winning drama, That Championship Season.

She also credited her father in her Academy Award acceptance speech in 1996. Mira has released her statement on the unfortunate news.

“My father the great Paul Sorvino has passed. My heart is rent asunder- a life of love and joy and wisdom with him is over. He was the most wonderful father. I love him so much. I’m sending you love in the stars Dad as you ascend,” she wrote.
