
It is with great sadness that the Columbia community announced the passing of Norris Pride on Tuesday morning. Norris Pride was a sophomore at Columbia Engineering, the Dignitary Shih-Fu Chang, and Columbia School Senior member, Josef Sorett has confirmed the sad news.

Who is Norris Pride?
Norris Pride was an exceptional young student in his sophomore in the School of engineering and applied science at Columbia Engineering. He was a native of South Chesterfield, Virginia, and graduating second in his class at Matoaca High School Norris’ love for research, physics, and quantum computing brought him to Columbia to pursue his passions and expand his horizons. He studied computer science and dreamed of one day obtaining his Ph.D. and becoming a researcher or college professor.
Norris had many more interests apart from science and engineering, particularly in studying different languages. He use to described himself as having “an innate desire to discover and innovate.” Norris’ journey to Columbia was one of hard work, ambition, and determination. He was also dedicated to giving back and started a club to mentor students in underserved communities who were interested in SAT.
How did Norris Pride die? What was the cause of his death?

Norris Pride was a passionate engineering student with a generous heart. His sad demise was annouced to the students of Columbia College and Columbia Engineering through an email from Dean Chang and Dean Sorett on Tuesday, November 1, at 9:19 am.
No specific cause of death as mentioned in the email, and his family has not shared any details on his reson of passing. We believe his family and close ones must get their privacy in this difficult time.

Counseling and Psychological Services extended their working hours on Tuesday evening and as they announced a gathering in memory of Norris Pride held on Tuesday from 4:30 to 6 pm in 401 Lerner Hall.

Norris was a strong student with a bright future, and his sudden death has been a shock to the Columbia community. He was an exceptional young man who will be remembered for his intelligence, dedication, and kindness. He will be missed as a beloved son, brother, and role model to his younger siblings. Our thoughts are with Norris’ family during this difficult time. Rest in peace Norris, you will be incredibly missed.
