Who is Katsuya Kitamura?

Katsuya Kitamura was a well-known name in the Japanese professional wrestling and bodybuilding industries. The wrestler was once dubbed “The Wrestling Monster” due to his giant body structure.

Katsuya was born on December 14, 1985 in Tokyo, Japan. He completed his graduation from Senshu University, Tokyo. During his time at the university, he became a part of the university wrestling team, and this is where his journey as a professional wrestler began.

Kitamura’s career background

After becoming a part of the university team, Katsuya won the ALL Japan Wrestling Championship in the 120 kg category in 2006. He also went to the World Championships in the same year, where he got the opportunity to represent his country.

Katsuya Kitamura started his training as a professional in 2015 at NJPW (New Japan Pro-Wrestling), where he became the winner of the Young Lion Cup in 2017. He was a hot prospect in the world of NJPW following an amateur wrestling career.

Katsuya made his professional debut with the Japan-based wrestling promotion in 2017 against Tomoyuki Oka, after which he was regularly featured in lower-card positions on main NJPW cards. His most successful year was 2017, as he won the Young Lion Cup in NJPW and was also named the “Rookie of the Year” by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Katsuya’s wrestling career ended prematurely, as he made his exit from NJPW in January 2019.

According to the reports, the 36-year-old, Katsuya Kitamura, was feeling unwell and ill on Tuesday, October 11, 2022. Due to this, he called an ambulance, but after calling the ambulance, his health condition started dropping drastically. The former NJPW star later died on the same day.
