Scottish-Persian singer and actor Darius Campbell Danesh suddenly passed away last Thursday at his apartment in Minnesota. He rose to fame after the ITV talent shows Popstars and Pop Idol around two decades ago. Read on to know Darius Campbell’s cause of death.

The dynamic performer had been a staple in the Scottish theater world since he was a teenager and went on to build a successful singing career across several genres. The unfortunate event of his passing comes just eight days before his 42nd birthday.

Ever since the heartbreaking news of Darius’ passing broke, fans and other celebs are paying tribute to the late entertainer. His ex-wife Natasha Henstridge and music producer Simon Cowell have penned emotional statements griefing the loss.


How did Darius Campbell Danesh die?

Darius Campbell Danesh was found dead at his apartment in Rochester, Minnesota, on Thursday, August 11, 2022. He was only 41 years old. The entertainer was reportedly found unresponsive in bed but the police have ruled out any signs of foul play.

The fans have been questioning Darius’ death ever since the news broke while mourning the loss of a highly-versatile performer.

Darius’ family has released a statement announcing the untimely passing of the talented man. “It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh,” the statement reads.

“Darius was found unresponsive in bed in his apartment room in Rochester, Minnesota, on August 11 and was pronounced dead in the afternoon by the local medical examiner’s office.

“The local police department has confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances. The cause of his sudden death is unknown at this stage while medical examinations continue.

“We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother.”


Darius Campbell’s Cause of Death could take two months to come out

At the time of writing, the cause of Darius Campbell’s death is unknown. The authorities are waiting for the toxicology results to find out what killed the Scottish singer at the age of 41 years. The death was reportedly not natural but there were no signs of intent or suspicion.

Darius was found dead at the Berkman Apartments in Rochester, Minnesota, opposite the Mayo Clinic specialist treatment center. The toxicology results may take around two months to come out. Hence, we’ll have to wait to know Darius Campbell’s cause of death.

Darius Campbell had a Decorated & Versatile Career

Darius Campbell Danesh was born on August 19, 1980, in Glasgow, Scotland, to a Scottish mother and Iranian father. He grew up in Bearsden, East Dunbartonshire, with his two younger brothers.

Darius completed school and Bearsden Primary and Glasgow Academy. He studied English Literature and Philosophy at the University of Edinburgh before starting his pop career. He rose to fame with an appearance on the ITV show Popstars in 2001.

Darius Danesh also appear on the first Pop Idol and came third behind Will Young and Gareth Gates. He was so awesome that the judge Simon Cowell offered him a contract which he declined but still rose to No.1 on the charts.

His debut single Colourblind (2002) went straight to number one, marking the start of a run where he delivered numerous top 10 releases.

He went on to have a successful stage career. Darius appears in Chicago as Billy Flynn in two seasons, and also in Guys And Dolls, Gone With The Wind, and more in the West End.

Darius was also an accomplished opera singer. He landed his first major opera role as he was cast in a new production of Carmen at London’s O2 Arena. He was also the co-executive producer of the horror film Imperium (2016) starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Darius dodged death twice in prior incidents

Darius Campbell had two close calls with death over the years. In 2010, he was involved in a horrifying car crash which resulted in a broken neck. He was a passenger in a Porsche that ran into a wall at 70mph after skidding on oil during a trip to Spain.

At the time he said: “I’m so happy to be alive. I’ve definitely used up one of my nine lives.”

Another incident happened when the Scottish star slipped into a coma after drinking water directly from the Thames next to a sewage outlet and contracting bacterial Meningitis. He did the publicity stunt to raise funds to get the water filters to Africa.

“It turned out I had a cerebral oedema where your brain swells bigger than your skull,” he revealed.

“My dad saved my life. He got me to hospital, they diagnosed it quickly. I had bacterial meningitis.

“I had picked up an inflammatory virus from the Thames that had stayed in my system.

“It knocked my white blood cell count out for months and had left my immunity low so that I could have picked up anything going around.

“I had been flying a lot and picked up bacterial meningitis which at that time was on the rise,” he added.


Ex-wife Natasha Henstridge pays tribute to Darius Campbell

Darius Campbell found love with Canadian actress Natasha Henstridge while living in the US. The couple had an on-again, off-again relationship in the beginning before calling it off in 2010. The two then secretly married on Valentine’s Day in 2011 at the San Ysidro Ranch in Santa Barbara, California.

However, the two later filed for divorce in 2013 and got divorced in 2018. Darius was the father of two stepchildren which Natasha had with her ex-boyfriend Liam Waite. They are named Tristan River Waite, 24, and Asher Sky Waite, 21.

Natasha has penned down a heartfelt note in a tribute post to her late ex-husband on Instagram. “I have found the paradox that if you love until it hurts there can be no more hurt, only more love – Mother Theresa,” she wrote with a carousel of their pictures.

“There are no words Darius…only Love Love Love. Forever Janam,” she added.

Darius’ mentor and Pop Idol co-creator Simon Cowell has also expressed his grief over the tragic event. “I first saw Darius on television over 20 years ago and I got to know him really well. He was charismatic, funny and just a great person to be with,” he wrote.

“His passing, for someone so young, is an absolute tragedy and my heart goes out to his family and friends,” he added.

  2. I first saw Darius in Pop Idol. I thought he was a super character. I followed his career with interest. His opera voice was magnificent.
    I was so shocked to hear of his death on the news. I could not believe it! I am so sad at his passing. A lovely guy. RIP Darius you were loved by many.
