Who was Bill Wolfson?
Bill Wolfson, whose full name was Bill Wolfson Lianie, was a 14-year-old trainee under the National Hockey Development Programme (NHDP) training camp in Ipoh, the capital city of the Malaysian state of Perak. The young goalkeeper hailed from SMK Penrissen, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia. Wolfson was a goalkeeper under the NHDP district training center at SekolahMenengahKebangsaanPenrissen, Kuching, Sarawak, and he was selected to attend the workshop as per the procedure.
How did Bill Wolfson die?
According to the reports, Bill Wolfson died suddenly while residing at the Perak National Sports Council hostel early on Sunday, November 6, 2022. He was there to attend a two-day MHC-AHF-Perak HA goalkeepers workshop as a trainee.
Bill Wolfson reached the goalkeeper’s clinic last Thursday, accompanied by Sarawak Youth head coach Wilina Mac Carina Anak Wilson. The workshop was started on Saturday, November 5, at the Raja Ashman Shah Hockey Academy in Ipoh, Perak.
What actually happened?
According to the MHC, “Bill Wolfson took a shower with his teammates, after which he complained about feeling a bit uneasy. Following complaints of discomfort and dizziness, Bill suddenly collapsed in his room at about 7 a.m.”
Bill was transferred to Raja PermaisuriBainun Hospital in Ipoh with the use of an ambulance. CPR was also performed to save his life, but it was not sufficient, and he was pronounced dead by the doctors. However, information about the cause of Wolfson’s sudden death is still unknown. As per some sources, NHDP management contacted Wolfson’s family members, and his aunt is on her way here to provide her help in making arrangements to send Bill’s remains to her family at Kuching.

Expressing condolences on the untimely death of Bill Wolfson, the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) shared a post with Bill’s picture on their Facebook page. The post reads, “Condolences to Bill Wolfson, from the President and All Members of the Executive Board of the Hockey Confederation of Malaysia (KHM) as well as Citizens of the NHDP (National Hockey Development Program).”
