Who was Eben Statt?
Eben was born June 16, 2000 in Hornell, New York to Michael A. and Jonna (Lambrosa) Statt. Eben was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting with his father and brothers. Growing up in Versailles had allowed him to explore all the beauty that nature could offer including trips to Lake of the Ozarks and camping trips in Arkansas. His siblings remember him as always being ready for a good adventure or even a game of cards at home on rainy days.
Eben was passionate about music from an early age. His mother recalls how he would make up songs as a child while playing outside. As he grew older he taught himself guitar which he played often with friends or by himself in solitude to clear his head when life seemed overwhelming. Music brought him much joy throughout his life which we can only hope he continues to experience wherever he may be now.
At just 22 years old Eben had already started making plans for his future which included continuing education so that he could better help those around him who were struggling with addiction issues like himself. He felt strongly that no one should have to face recovery alone because it takes a village to make lasting change possible in this world we live in today.

The unexpected and devastating news of the death of Eben Statt on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 has left his friends, family, and community reeling. Formerly known as “Bear” to close family and friends within his Versailles hometown, the 22 year old was a Criminal Justice major at Pensacola Christian College, where he was making preparations for his senior year. With a love for sports and an even greater admiration for other people in his life as well as God, Eben had many friends and people who loved him dearly. What had seemed like a perfectly healthy life for the young man ended all too soon; unfortunately, the cause of death is still not known at this time. Amidst their grief and confusion are hearts that are forever changed by the generous spirit of Bear Statt.

We are deeply saddened by the loss of this young man whose life was cut short too soon but take comfort knowing that our memories of Eben Simeon Statt will live on forever in our hearts every time we hear a song or cast out a line into still waters seeking solace from pain and sorrows alike. Our thoughts are with Eben’s family during this difficult time as they mourn their beloved son, brother, friend, confidante…and Bear! May peace find them all!
