Douglas Frank Wong Jr., professionally known as Doug Wong was born on 24 September 1964 in Houston, Texas. His parents were Chinese immigrants who ran grocery stores and restaurants in the American tradition.
He did his formal education in his hometown and studied engineering in college and referred to himself as “kind of a techie”. In his initial days, Doug assisted to other staff members in installing new pagination systems. In 2011, he was hired by The Post and during that time, he additionally served as a copy editor and a business editor at newspapers in Texas and Missouri.
In 1989, he completed his graduation with a degree in Communication from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. Then, he worked as a night police and religion reporter and then as a copy editor and assistant news editor for the Waco Tribune-Herald for more than decades.
Prior to taking on the roles of business copy chief and national editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch between 2005 and 2011, he first worked for the Houston Chronicle and American-Statesman.
