It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of former Crystal Palace midfielder Andrejs Rubins. Rubins was a key player for the Eagles during his time at the club, making 37 appearances and scoring some important goals. He will be remembered fondly by fans for his goal against Liverpool in the 2000 League Cup (see video below).

Rubins also had a successful international career, representing Latvia 117 times over 13 years. He was a pivotal player for his country and will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.

On Wednesday, the Latvian soccer organization announced the passing of Andrejs Rubins, a man who holds the record for the most appearances with Latvia’s national team. He was 43 years old. Though the cause of death has not yet been revealed, the soccer federation expressed their condolences to his loved ones.

Rubins also spent time playing for clubs in England, Sweden, Russia, and Azerbaijan before retiring from the sport in 2012.
