When Cody Rhodes was withdrawn from the last Saturday night’s main event, WWE initially revealed that he was suffering from an injury. At first, it appeared as though WWE was giving Rhodes the night off, as he still appeared on the show and was still promoting his Hell in a Cell match with Seth Rollins, which takes place at tonight’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. However, numerous claims have surfaced since then, claiming that the injury is genuine.
According to Dave Meltzer, the injury is a torn pec, who first discussed it on Sunday Night’s Main Event. According to him, “Lifting weights caused Cody injury. It appears to be a major injury, from what I can tell. With the injury, I think he is working the match tonight and will get it taken care of later. It’s a real injury. He was working tonight, according to everything I’d heard. I don’t know whether the doctors say you can’t. It was a weightlifting injury, not an injury in the ring.”
On Wrestling Observer Live, he stated that Rhodes is still working the bout based on all indications. WWE has been scrambling to adjust plans due to the injury; according to @WrestleVotes “Unfortunately, the injury reports about Cody Rhodes are true. He’ll still be working tonight’s HIAC event, albeit the extent of his ailment is yet unknown. The match’s schedule has changed several times throughout the day, and Cody is in a bad situation.”
Unfortunately, the Cody Rhodes injury news going around is accurate. He is still scheduled to work tonight’s HIAC event, w/ the severity of the injury still being determined. I’m told plans for the match have been changing all day long. Feel terrible for Cody.

Update: During the Kickoff show, WWE announced that Rhodes’ pectoral tendon was torn entirely off the bone during a workout (the original injury stemming from the brawl with Rollins on this week’s Raw), but that he will wrestle regardless.

Despite this, Rhodes has remained silent on social media about the injury and has gone about his business. Many fans believed Rhodes would complete the sweep against Rollins and then win Money in the Bank next month to set the stage for a world championship match with Roman Reigns, based on the fact that he was highly featured in the advertising for tonight’s show as well as next month.
