According to the Orlando Fire Department the boy was dead on Friday night, Orange County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit located the body on Lake Fairview around 5.15 p.m. after 24 hours from when he went missing.
OFD spokesperson Jenny DeSantis said on Thursday afternoon at around 5:50 that five student rowers from the North Orlando Rowing club were on the boat when their boat was hit by lightning and capsized. Rescuers could save four children and one was injured who was given medical help at Advent Health for Children. The fifth child went missing as he fell of the boat during the incident. OFD dive team searched for the missing rower Thursday night but had to suspend the search due to bad weather although they resumed the search shortly.
OFD stated “On behalf of the Orlando Fire Department and all the first responders on scene, our hearts go out to the family and friends impacted by this tragedy,”
Tributes have been given to family of child who died in the sad incident.
No further details of the children’s are disclosed, the missing student attended Annunciation Catholic Academy in Altamonte Springs, reference to a Facebook post from the school.
