On Sunday, February 12th, the Quinnipiac University School of Communications community was saddened to learn of the passing of one of their beloved professors, Barry Sacks. Keep reading to learn more about this tragic news.
Who was Barry Sack?
As an ESPN employee for nearly 37 years, Barry Sacks was well known and highly respected amongst his colleagues. He started out as a production assistant in 1986 and quickly worked his way up to become one of the network’s most talented television producers. During his time there, he helped run some of ESPN’s most iconic programs and mentored scores of young production assistants that went on to have successful careers themselves. His contributions to the company were immense and will never be forgotten by those who worked alongside him.
Barry Sacks’ Time at Quinnipiac University
In addition to his work at ESPN, Barry also took on teaching roles at both Quinnipiac University and Wake Forest University in North Carolina. At Quinnipiac specifically, he served as an adjunct professor for several years – teaching students about TV production and helping them develop their skills in this field. Both colleagues and students alike have expressed their deep appreciation for all that he gave to them over the years – praising him as an incredible mentor who truly cared about each person he came into contact with.

What was thought to be a normal night of pickleball with friends turned out to be a tragedy when Barry Sacks, a long-time professor at Quinnipiac University’s School of Communications, suffered a massive heart attack on Friday. After several hours of medical treatment and care, he passed away early Sunday morning at only 63 years old. Shock and sadness burden all those who had the pleasure to know him as the community mourns the loss of a man who inspired countless lives during his career.
