Aaron Laigaie was a well-known figure in the far-right wing of American politics and a vocal supporter of then-President Donald Trump. He was also a prominent COVID denier, claiming to have a “natural resistance” to the virus. Tragically, it seems that his resistance was not enough to save him from the disease. Laigaie’s death is a harsh reminder of the dangers of coronavirus and the importance of taking precautions against the disease. Though he was young and seemingly healthy, the virus still claimed his life.

Aaron Laigaie, the co-founder of the far-right group known as the MT Baker Proud Boys, passed away on Friday, January 13th, 2023. Initially released information about his death seemed to come with conflicting information as to the exact cause of death; however it was later confirmed that Aaron Laigaie had succumbed to complications from coronavirus disease (COVID-19). This was especially concerning and confounding due to Aaron’s claims that he had a “natural resistance” to COVID and his COVID-denying beliefs. Reports show that he fought against COVID-19 in the hospital’s medical urgent care unit for three and a half weeks before passing away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones in a hospice house. The death of Aaron Laigaie is a tragedy for his community and family alike.
